Nintendo Power's Virtual Console Poll: Earthbound WINS the Top!!

The results are in from Nintendo Power's poll of most wanted games for the Virtual Console. As I reported, Starmen.net urged fans to vote for Earthbound, and Mother, if you like (since Mother 3 is a GBA game, it's likely not ever coming to the VC, if it were to be released). The results... are surprising.

The official results read:
1) Earthbound
2) Super Mario RPG
3) Chrono Trigger
4) Mother
5) Majora's Mask

Yes. Earthbound DID get the top spot for the most wanted game people who voted want for the VC. And Mother got spot #4. Wow. I did not foresee this, at all.

And check that out, Super Mario RPG beat Chrono Trigger??? And Earthbound even beat Chrono Trigger. Wow. Just... wow. That's really something. And I don't know what the hell Majora's Mask is even doing on there. But will Nintendo of America listen to this either? Most likely not. I do hate to say it, but Nintendo is just so dead set on NOT releasing these games, they won't listen to ANYTHING.

But congratulations to us, the fans, anyway, for making our demands known. Let's hope for our demands to be met anyway, but... don't get your hopes up too much...

Success! That is great news. Our voices were finally heard. Personally, I would rather have Chrono Trigger in the Virtual Console, but since it’s not a first party game it probably won’t be happening until Square decides to get in on the fun.

Maybe Nintendo will now add EarthBound to their long list of VC titles, I mean, how hard could it be? If they don’t they’d be completely ignoring their fan’s wishes and demands, and that’s just wrong. People want to pay money to play EarthBound, so why not give it to them?

Well. As it just so happens, as is being reported all over the intarbutt, it sounds like Earthbound might be coming to the VC afterall.

Yeah.

Take a look: http://starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=46159

The ESRB has rated it, and the platform says 'Wii'. So. what else could this mean but the VC? Now, NoA themselves have not come out and said anything about this. Also, look at what SMN's post says about Shining Force II. Did...NoA say SFII was coming on the VC, and then it never was? Well, since NoA has been so insistent on never touching the Mother series again, and now hearing this about Shining Force II, this all makes me suspicious. Maybe it will happen again, and NoA isn't actually going to release it. It's hard to say without NoA commenting on this. So stay tuned for more news on this one...

My friend always said it was 'inevitable' that Chrono Trigger would be on the GBA. Well. As you can see, it certainly was not 'inevitable', because that never happened. It would be great to have it on VC, and I guess now it would have to be DS instead of GBA, but I'm really not sure how likely that is to happen. I don't think there are any Squenix games at all on the VC, and well, they don't seem that interested in it. But we'll see what happens.

NoA is pretty consistent with not listening to customers, so none of this surprises anyone, really. As for people wanting to pay money for it, well, a lot of people argue 'Well, they won't get ENOUGH money from it!' NoA is not going to bankrupt if they re-release Earthbound. 9__9 Also, the example I always have to give is Magical Starsign; 'not enough' people bought that game, but NoA was more than happy to release Magical Starsign 2.
