The Dark Side of Cosplay

Cosplay is a cool way of showing others how much you like certain characters from various video games, movies, comics, etc. Some cosplayers are highly skilled at making their own costumes, resulting in fantastic-looking threads almost identical to the characters they're portraying. But sometimes no matter how good the costumes look, the person wearing it doesn’t look anything like the character, and that’s when cosplay turns scary. I mean, I love Street Fighter III’s Hugo, but I’m not 7’ 2”, nor weigh 445 lbs, so I won’t make a fool out of myself by dressing up like him. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to stop people from doing it. For every good-looking cosplay act, there are 50 horrible mutations. Here’s an example of cosplay gone wrong.

What the hell is this? If that’s supposed to be Daisy from the Mario Party series, I don’t ever want to see a Wario cosplay.

Hey, Astrid:
Cosplay isn't just for anyone. Cosplay is an art, something people need to realize. Not just anyone can pose as a Peach, Daisy, nor a Wario. Cosplay DOES matter what people think, because if you wanted to dress just for yourself, you'd never leave your house. Obviously these people were aware of public criticism the moment they stepped into a convention. And you know what else? Only good cosplay will deserve praise. Because people who do a good job with good cosplay will be admired, while people who don't even try, or don't even look the part will always be laughed at. Oh, and that comment on fat people dying? Survival of the fittest. Take THIS to your grave, you hippy.

I agree with ~Astrid~, apart from all the meet Hitler in hell stuff. People are free to do whatever the hell they want, and to be happy and have fun, and if people say they're too fat then they should body slam those people.

well jk, but anyway I think it's awful that people are made fun of for what they look like. It's their own freaking business. wtf do you care? If you want to laugh at what they look like, that's also your business, but how can you say they shouldn't do it? And please don't berate them to their face.

Personally I think cosplay is very lame in general, but that's just me.
